UK's Superdry to sell South Asia IP assets to Reliance for 40 million pounds

UK fashion retailer Superdry on Wednesday said it will sell its intellectual property assets in South Asia to Reliance Retail for 40 million pounds (Rs 402 crore) through a joint venture. Superdry, whose fashion line mostly includes sweatshirts, hoodies and jackets, will own 24 per cent of the joint venture while Reliance Retail, India's largest retailer, will have the remaining 76 per cent. Under the agreement, Superdry's brand IP assets in South Asia will be permanently transferred to the new JV entity.

The country's foreign exchange reserves surged by $5.271 billion to touch a record high of $598.165 billion in the week ended May 28, RBI data showed on Friday. In the previous week ended May 21, 2021, the reserves had increased by $2.865 billion to $592.894 billion. While announcing the second bi-monthly monetary policy review earlier on Friday, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the country's forex reserves may have crossed $600 billion currently.

The Reserve Bank of India has announced the introduction of currency futures on eligible exchanges. A currency future is a standardised contract, traded on an exchange, to buy or sell an underlying asset (exchange rate in this case) at a certain date in future at a specified price today. Banks, brokers could be first off the block; companies need to have underlying rupee-dollar positions. RBI has clarified corporates accessing such products should make compulsory disclosures.
